MCC Colouring 101 Wk 3 - Seascapes

........above & below water using watercolouring techniques with various pencils.

The first uses pan watercolours to create the sea - a technique which requires a lot of practice & can be a somewhat hit & miss affair; my first attempt was a miss & hit the bin. Below is my second attempt which I am counting as a "hit."

I have stamped all my images in VersaFine Onyx Black ink onto Winsor & Newton Cotman 190 gsm Cold Pressed/NOT Grain Fin Watercolour Paper. This is readily available here in Brecon, has a smooth enough surface for stamping & is not too thick for "Fussy Cutting" of images should I wish to do so. I have seen some smoother Hot Pressed watercolour paper locally & shall try that in due course but it is quite thick at 300 gsm so I doubt it would allow for detailed cutting using scissors.

The next two combine watercolouring using Derwent Aquatone sticks & Daler-Rowney Artists' Watercolouring Pencils with the use of  Derwent Pastel Pencils. The edges have been inked with Distress Inks.

The next one was my favourite. It is watercoloured with Derwent Inktense Pencils and definition provided by using Derwent Coloursoft Pencils with a Lyra Rembrandt SPLENDER blending pencil. The edges are inked with a combination of Brushed Corduroy & Tea Dye Distress Inks.

Beautiful pices of artwork Paula.

I especially love the second piece with the contrasts of colours and such superb attention to detail and shading.

The Seagulls are great, love the cloudy sky. The sea looks as if it has a swell - when the water looks smooth but still has movement to it, as if it is going up where the posts come out of the water.
The treasure pots have a warm glow to them, shading is brill.

Stunning Paula!
I can see how much you have learned from your colouring classes. That sounds like an insult really which I don't mean it to be, what I mean is that I can see how your colouring has changed and developed. These are all beautiful but I particularly like the last underwater image where the shading and light is subtle but absolutely perfect. Beautiful work Paula.

Love Elaine xx

I can hear the sound of the seaside!! Both of these are absolutely amazing. The underwater image is so realistic and 3D - you've nailed the shading!

In answer to your question about my Sassy Storage tutorial, you got it in one. The Rymans is the stuff recommended for PM use. I hope you give the tutorial a go - let me know how it goes! :)

wow, you should be really proud of yourself-- these ALL are amazing! i meant to comment on the faces the other day, and must have got distracted (will blame the kiddies on this one;)...but finally got here tonight and was so interested reading through your post. backgrounds are very difficult for me. characters come easily, and then i want to add something-- ANYTHING!- to the background...but am usually too scared:). you have real talent here!...and i'm a bit jealous. just being honest:).

have a lovely night!...or day...i know we are off a little on time, you and me:)
