Unplanned Childhood Thoughts

Whilst watering the front garden a few nights ago (we need a lot of rain now after our very dry summer) I noticed the most astonishing sunset as I looked towards the sky over Brecon town. I took some photos & didn't really think more of it. A few days later my husband (observing my honey laden bread for lunch) read me an extract from a Rupert Brooke poem titled 'The Old Vicarage." It wasn't the bit about honey that caught my imagination but the hares at sunset. The image below is the result of my playing about with my photo & graphics editing programme about which I know very little. But there is more - hares led to rabbits & rabbits led to my childhood train journeys to & from school where I'd gleefully count the number of rabbits I could spot in the fields along the railway track. Isn't it strange what the imaginative mind will create if we allow it some freedom?

Midst all the uncertainty of trying to sell our house I'm exploring various aspects of artwork including lettering, journalling & Celtic art. It was on one of those little explorations in blogland that I stumbled upon the Take A Word Challenge where this week's word is Childhood.

That sky is amazing - so beautiful. I remember counting rabbits in the fields during train journeys to the seaside also trying to be the first one to spot the sea!!

What a lovely project Paula, a beautiful picture and how nice that it led you through that train of through and back to those childhood railway jouneys accompanied by bunnies! That blog was new to me, and it looks very inspiring. I love the idea of you being read poetry with your lunch! Elaine xx

Beautiful poem & photo Paula. It's like a gift when on rare occasions the sky at sunset turns pink & blue. Have a great day, Shirleyx

This is an excellent composition. I love the way the clouds lead you into the glorious sunset in the horizon. Blessings, my friend!

A glorious sunset and a wonderful verse. Your blog brought back happy memories of traveling on the train which was a much anticipated yearly occurrence for me. No bunnies so we counted cattle!

Stunning photo and a fabulous verse. Took me back to my childhood, visiting an elderly relative with whom we often saw hares in the field behind her cottage
Beautiful post x

A perfect photograph Paula.
So much beauty surrounds us every day if we just take the time to see it!

I didn't see many rabbits as a child, but my most precious memories are of the times spent with my Grandmother, who passed away when I was 12.
She was in her 70's when I was born, but would take this then small child to the 'ladies fairs' and buy me tiny bottles of lavender water, and pristine white cotton handkerchiefs that had flowers hand embroidered on the corners. Then we would go back to Grandma's home and sit in the garden taking afternoon tea. I had my own Shelley cup and saucer with a Lily of the Valley design on it. I look back and I am astonished that I was trusted enough to sip from such a beautiful and delicate piece of chinaware (and even now I wish I could find one to buy for myself)

Thank you for taking me on a trip back down memory lane.

Big hugs
Elaine xxx
