Ribboned Rectangles of Rowan Resist Alphatag

I have applied a little artistic licence for the Rowan leaves in my "R" Baroque Guild Alphatag as I'm not certain that my leaves have quite the correct shape to them - I'm calling these stylized leaves whereas my berries & the tree shapes seem to be authentic. Nonetheless, I used the Rowan's natural autumnal colours for the leaves.

I created rectangular segments within the tag utilizing ribbon. For the application of colour to the whole tag I wanted to used a resist technique where areas are coloured with wax or oil based pencils (in my case the oil based Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils)  & then burnished with a Derwent Burnisher in order to seal them with a layer of colourless wax. These areas will then resist any water based medium applied - I used Tumbled Glass Distress Stain for watercolouring the background.

Inks Chestnut Memories Dye (images), Vintage Photo Distress Ink (inking various cardstock edges & tone on tone stamping), Tumbled Glass Distress Stain (watercolouring background).
Pencils, Markers etc... Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils, Derwent Burnisher, White Pentel K118 Hybrid Gel Grip Pen, Staedtler Triplus Fineliner.
Cardstock Winsor & Newton Cotman 190gsm Cold Pressed/NOT Grain Fin Watercolour Paper; brown & pale blue cardstock from stash.
Die Sizzix Movers & Shapers L Die - Tag & Bookplates.
Punch Woodware (scalloped squares).
The ribbon, brads & gems are from stash.

The stamp set has never been used (it dates from some time in 2011) so I shall join in Judith's Forgotten Friday 63 with this tag.

This is gorgeous and yet again you've come up with words I didn't think of. The colours are perfect together and the stylised leaves lovely. I'm sure a little artistic licence is allowed and often necessary anyway.

Great intricate ideas as always. You put me to shame with the thought you put into your tag themes. I have never thought of using pencils with a burnished layer for resist! Gorgeous colours and great composition of lovely natural images. The person who gets this tag will be a very happy bunny I am sure. Elaine x

Good morning Paul,

There's nothing wrong with artistic license at all, in fact what makes crafting such fun.

The colours of your tag are stunning and I like the idea (in my mind anyway) how you work around your tag from berry, to leaf to tree, symbolising the years growth.

Paula your vision of taking a theme and seeing all the possibilities is what makes you such a great artist. This little tag contains so much color. My eye didn't know which panel to look at first. I was so excited to take in all the details.

Hi Paula,
My sincerest apologies for not visiting sooner..I am still trying to catch up with everyone and reply to all the emails!

You never cease to amaze me with the inventiveness of your beautiful tags...R is for Rowan, I would never have thought of that in a 100 years!
beautifully laid out with the ribbon separating the different images, and a fab technique to showcase too!

I love this tag, the colours are so vibrant. Rowan is one of my favourite trees.I have growing in a very large pot in the garden in the hope it will not get too big.It has grown from a berry dropped by a bird. Jean x

love your ideas Paula, I never thought of rectangles - so obvious when someone else has though! Don't know if the leaves are right botanically, but they work beautifully for me
