MCC Colouring 101 Wk 2 - Rounded Application

 from my sketchbook

Glenda uploaded a YouTube video on how to colour the Morning Glory digital image she provided for the MCC Colouring 101 students to practise with. The video itself makes fascinating watching, moreover Glenda's company Chocolate Baroque also sells an A4 Unmounted stamp sheet - UA4SP0151 Flora & Fauna -  including a very similar image.

I was inspired by the fact that the Morning Glory flowers in other colours apart from blue & decided to incorporate the violet aspects into my colouring. The above is not quite what I had in mind but I'm content that the flower looks realistic - even if these precise colour markings don't actually exist in reality.  Colouring seems to have a life all of its own with serendipity being very much part of my own creative process & allowing me a freedom that I'm loath to stifle.

I wanted to apply the rounded shading principles to a different image & so tried this rose. With hindsight I should probably have left the highlights white & not tried to give my rose red & yellow petals. It almost ended in the bin but I decided that it was worth keeping to act as a reminder not to over-egg the pudding.

Hi Paula, your attention to detail is fabulous as always. Just watched YouTube which was fascinating. I've got the Morning Glory stamp - I've never made it look that good! Can't wait for my Back to Basics course to start! Sandra

your morning glory is fabulous Paula, but I do so love the red and yellow rose! I have the stamps, in a box in Mum's loft at the moment so won't be getting them inky for a while!

This is some beautiful colouring and I particularly like the mauve hints on the morning glory. The rose is looking very realistic too. I hope you are feeling better now. I'm enjoying lesson 4

Love the colours on the morning glory Paula, the tiny yellow highlight really stands out against the violet. The leaves on the rose are brilliant.

What fabulous work Paula.

I love Morning Glory and the shading and definition you have created is just stunning and the actual colours spot on.

i agree-- part of the fun and creativity in coloring an image is allowing yourself to walk a little from the path of reality!! i love your morning glory in purple!! and i love the color-dipped roses in the grocery store-- I know they are artificially colored, but my favorite are the autumn colored ones...just like the one you colored:) i guess the florist likes to take a trip off the reality path, too;) but i really like the way the rose is colored...they are always the ones I break down and buy. for myself:) LOL

Hi Paula :)

I love seeing this kind of work - the morning glory is brilliant. I have been paying quite a bit of attention to the techniquey stuff you have been doing and I was inspired to colour a top hat on an image based on your examples.

Hope to share it soon :) but a DT card.

hugs
