Friendly or Loving Roses

I wanted to work with the latest release of rubber stamps from Chocolate Baroque (UA5SP0402 Rose & Thistle) which is also the current Stamp of the Month set at the same time as building myself a repertoire of background techniques which I can turn to. Initially I thought of making ATC sized panels but upon rummaging in my W H Smith white card box (I only take a new sheet of A4 card/paper if I don't have a large enough piece in one of my scraps boxes which are sorted according to type/colouring medium: watercolour, alcohol markers, W H Smith 220gsm white & Southfields 160gsm Bright White) I found a whole pile of 3½ inch Zentangle tiles I'd cut & these are proving a perfect format.

paper panel plus layered background stamping
inside of card

frame (Tattered Rose) & message panel (Spun Sugar)

The image was stamped in VersaFine Onyx Black & then wet embossed with clear embossing powder prior to colouring with Copic Markers. This is a technique which I learnt from Elizabeth Allan which gives a lovely finish, particularly with a stamp like this where there are large solid areas, & avoids the 'contamination' of the marker tip which can occur when using black/coloured embossing powder.

The background was made by stamping each of the three rose images randomly around the edges working inwards: using the large bud with Dried Marigold first, then the flower-head only from the single stem with Tattered Rose, & lastly the smallest bud with Spun Sugar. Finally Spun Sugar Distress Ink was applied around the edges using a blending tool.

Recipe
Stamps Chocolate Baroque UA5SP0402 Rose & Thistle.
Inks VersaFine Onyx Black with Stewart Gill Ultrafine Embossing Powder (main image); Dried Marigold, Spun Sugar & Tattered Rose Distress Inks (background & internal panel inking as detailed above & in photos).
Pencils/Markers Copic Markers.
Cardstock White & assorted blacks in various finishes.
Paper Joanna Sheen.
Dies Spellbinders Shapeabilities Lace Doily Motifs.
Punch Woodware (scalloped square).

Stamping Sensations January Challenge - Friendship (my card is intended for a friend's birthday but it could equally be used for a 'Just to Say/Friendship' card)

Such a lot of work here Paula, and the result is a beautiful card. I love the stamped background and the way you have documented your colours and stamps used. I never stamp in Distress Ink, it never seems to work for me. I love the stamping and colouring of the main panel. Now Versafine is my favourite ink and using clear EP over it has worked beautifully. Your colouring is lovely, and all the effort has resulted in a really gorgeous card, I love using a black background, it makes a real focal point of all the work.

Sensational background stamping Paula, a very subtle combination of single stamps and soft inks. I must try your embossing technique it looks so sharp. Pleased that you are feeling better.

A stunning card, Paula. Your colouring is superb and gives real dimension to the beautiful image. Love the way you coordinated the base panel with the stamping in the same colours too. It is something I do a lot, which means my stash of papers doesn't shrink much!

Beautiful creation Paula ! The Rose image is a beauty and I love the colours you've chosen. I really like your background with the rose bud stamping. I love to used Distress Inks for stamping. If there was only one medium I was 'allowed' to use, it would be Distress Inks, you can do so much with them. I also love the inside die cut, it looks great with your stamping. You put a lot of work into your great post ! Have a wonderful weekend, Shirleyx

Those roses are beautifully coloured Paula and the inking with the spun sugar complements perfectly.

I was so pleased to read that you stamp and then embossed with detail clear as it is what I usually do, but as so few seem to heat emboss nowadays I decided I was just old-fashioned.

Thanks so much your sharing your lovely inspirational piece with us at Penny Black and More and Stamping Sensations challenges this month.

Wow Paula, this is so striking and very beautiful. Your Copic colouring is wonderful and I think I need to come for some tips. The solid black background combined with your colouring skills gives the roses real dimension and the stamped background layer is beautiful too. A really stunning card altogether.

Paula the depth of this design is magnificent. The combination of layers is fabulous along with the rubber stamping. You create a very strong focal point and then softly pull the eye outward with the soft backgrounds nestled behind. Details do not stop there as the inside is beautifully finished as well.
