Making Friends with a Difference

The colour reproduction in the photographs is a little misleading. The base card is actually a golden cream Moondust. The scalloped circle of the message panel is orange glitter card & the circular message panel is pale yellow (as is the top horizontal panel on the card front).

My new Sugar Nellie stamps arrived almost a week ago but it has taken a while to get somewhere with colouring hair. I had never coloured images with shading or realistically until February this year when a Sugar Nellie advert in the Craft Stamper magazine caught my attention. I bought the magazine & upon investigating that advert discovered the world of blogs & challenges. The artistic style of cardmaking with colouring, design etc... seems to be a way forwards for me.

A few days spent trying to colour hair with pencils or Distress Inks left me frustrated more than anything else & I knew that I needed a step-by-step guide of some kind. After looking at various tutorials on how to use the Copic Markers/ProMarkers I took the plunge & made a start using those. Baffled by how to combine the various shades I found Marianne Walker's blog & her posting on natural blending families. By working through her blog I am becoming convinced that this colouring medium is one with which I shall be comfortable (I am already thinking of the Copics & ProMarkers as friends rather than something to do battle with).

Challenge 34 at The Sugar Bowl is a sketch by Tiets with an additonal theme of punches. I have rotated the sketch 90 degrees clockwise & replaced the sentiment with two small punched stars.

Recipe
Stamp Sugar Nellie Gorjuss Untamed.
Inks etc... Memento Tuxedo Black, Distress Inks for inking all cardstock edges.
Colouring Copic Ciao Markers supplemented by ProMarkers; Tombow Marker (I found this more suitable than the ProMarker Black Fine Liner Pen for inking the white edges after cutting the image out).
Cardstock Cream Moondust, navy, yellow, royal blue, fluorescent orange & glittered orange from "stash".
Punches/Dies Woodware (large stars, circle & scalloped circle); Xcut (small stars & corner punch); Spellbinders Nestabilities Large Deckled Rectangles.
Buttons Woodware
Gold mesh ribbon gold thread from "stash".

Hi Paula! I followed the link to your blog from the SN forum on SCS. Love your cards with the Gorjuss girls - if you ever want to swap a few images just let me know, I have tons of SN stamps but very few Gorjuss girls!

Hi Paula, thanks for your suggestion on which challenge I made my card for (really must start making a note - I forget). It was Crqazy4Challenges although it didn't look like it at the end - one of those that insisted on doing it's own thing.
Great card, your colouring of her hair is greatand I love your details.
hugs Heather xx
